How stable is a PLA part after printing?

For comparison, PLA (Poly Lactic Acid) is as stable as a Lego piece. You can step on it as hard as you'd like and it will not break. The pieces are certainly stable enough for drilling or sanding. PLA will set to solid very quickly, reduces the thermal stress on the printed part so warping is much less of an issue in larger parts. PLA can be sprayed with automotive spray filler and you can also paint directly onto PLA with acrylic paints. PLA is enviromentally friendly as it is derived from corn starch and not fossil fuel and is able to biodegrade in an active compost heap.

Is there any warning with the Axis or Glider?

As with all electrical machines, common sense caution should prevail. The 3D Printer kit is NOT a toy and it contains small and sharp parts. Children can choke or suffocate by swallowing small objects. Keep all parts away from children and never leave printer/parts unattended Disconnect printer from electricity source when not in use. Please note that the extruder generates a substantial amount of heat when in use.

Loading and Reloading Plastic

When loading and reloading plastic, you will need to do the following steps:

1. Make sure your extruder is on and set to the proper temperature

2. Run the extruder so that the old filament is not showing on the top

3. Snip the tip of the new filament at an angle

4. Load the filament in the running extruder until it catches and moves by itself

5. Keep running extruder until a steady stream of plastic is coming out

What is the BotMill advantage for educational institutes?

We are helping high schools, technical colleges and universities extend their science, CAD and machine tool curriculums by enabling students to build functional models and see their ideas firsthand.

As the study and use of CAD and 3D printing increases, understanding this technology is essential for design students. BotMill is the right tool for training the designers and engineers of tomorrow.

BotMill 3D Printers provide an affordable, easy to use, easy to maintain, one-step process for students and instructors to explore concepts in durable plastic.
